Art Taylor was born in West Virginia and moved to Jacksonville in 1954 where he lived until he graduated from Jacksonville University with a BA in history. In 1970, he completed a Master of Divinity Degree and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in 1985 from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He also earned a Master of Strategic Studies in 2001 from the United States Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, PA.
Art served as an Army Reserve chaplain for twenty-nine years and retired with the rank of colonel at age 60. From 1979, to the present Art has served as Director of New Work for the Jacksonville Baptist Association which is comprised of 195 churches and missions. As new work director, Art’s responsibility is to help start new churches in and around the city of Jacksonville.
Other interests include real estate investments, playing different musical instruments and the acquisition of two United States Patents.
Art and his wife Mary have four children and ten grandchildren who live in other parts of the country. Mary is a retired director of development for the Baptist Home for Children in Jacksonville.
